Mimi Fox - She's the WomanMimi Fox turns in a strong performance on her new release for Favored Nations Cool titled She's The Woman. The 'hot' 6-string guitarist is accompanied by an imaginative ensemble that consists of Ray Drummond and Jon Evans on bass, Randy Halberstadt on piano, Tim Bulkley and Paul van Wageningen on drums, and Tom Miller on steel drums, percussion and congas. In addition to the five great new songs she wrote on the recording, Fox covers several wonderful pop and jazz standards including the title track 'She's The Woman,' that originated from the prolific pens of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The CD opens with her burning 'East Coast Attitude,' a searing straight-ahead piece that spotlights her guitar prowess and her ability to convey a compelling range of emotions.

'Sosua' is a guaranteed 'get happy' hit that was inspired by some impromptu jamming with street musicians in Dominican Republic. Her graceful changes -- from 7/4 on her lithe solo to 4/4 as the vocal
refrain comes in - is another testament to her ability to write entertaining songs while showing off some exciting string technique. She cools it down on 'Buddy's Blues' a tune she wrote for Bud Spangler and heightens the jazz elements on 'Angel Eyes,' with innovative chordal passages that help to evoke the complicated expressions of this great song. Capping off the performance is the funk jazz rendition of the title track. All together, Mimi Fox puts a new face on jazz guitarists and has established herself as a triple
threat - guitarist, composer and arranger/improviser. She definitely proves that She's The Woman.
